October is National Substance Abuse Month. It was first created in 2011, and since then, this is a time to focus on substance abuse prevention in our communities. We remember those who have lose their lives to substance abuse, acknowledge those in recovery, and support our community members. According to The National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN),  “People who began using addictive substances before age 15 are nearly 7 times likelier to develop a substance problem than those who delay first use until age 21 or older.”

During this month, we also participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This is observed every October and April. These events provide a safe and confidential way to dispose of leftover prescription drugs. We also have a list of prescription drug drop off locations that you can use year-round.
